Musson's award philosophy is simple and applies as much to the pieces designed for awards as to the pieces designed for clients:
"Mainstream fashion, is influenced by haute couture. In the same way jewellery is influenced by award and "collection" pieces. Elements of these more outrageous designs filter down into jewellery that we wear every day. We should always dare to do something different, if only to inspire something simple!" |

Since winning his first award in 1969, Robert Musson has gone on to contest or win nearly every major Australian diamond jewellery design award, including the De Beers Diamond Facets Supreme Award. In 2000 he was selected as a finalist in the De Beers Diamonds International Awards. This competition is widely regarded as the "Oscars" of the jewellery world and is fiercely contested by designers from all over the planet. Robert reflected the feeling of the time with an out of this world design called "Millennium", inspired by the five Olympic rings. |
