The rarest and most valuable diamonds in the world today are the precious Pink Diamonds from the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia's rugged Kimberley ranges. This is the largest diamond mine in the world, producing an average of 35 million carats per annum, which is approximately one third of world production. Hidden under the harsh deserts of this remote region for more than a million years, the remarkable Pink Diamonds account for less than one tenth of 1% of the Argyle mine's total production. Argyle is the primary source of these gems, supplying 95% of the world's supply, the Pinks are rare and highly prized around the world. As with most rare and beautiful things, the supply of Pink Diamonds is limited to the life of the Argyle mine and that unfortunately is not everlasting. Robert Musson, an Argyle Panel Member, is one of a select few jewellers, chosen by Argyle, who have access to the full range of Argyle diamonds, which along with Pink Diamonds, includes Champagne, Cognac and White diamonds. Coloured diamonds, unlike white diamonds, are graded for their intensity of colour not lack of it. Therefore, according to the table below, the rarest Pink Diamond is a Very Intense Purple Pink: 1PP. This is an almost impossible colour to find and arguably the most precious gemstone available in the world today. The majority of Pink production tends to yield diamonds of less than half a carat, however, once a year, Argyle offers the best of the year's Pinks for sale, by invitation only, at an exclusive worldwide Tender. On average there are only 50 to 60 stones tendered and Musson are one of the very few who have sold from this extremely select range. We also have a collection of loose Pink diamonds and fabulous jewellery in stock and are able to source particular requests. |
